Find Your Serial Number
Find Your Serial Number
About
Your serial number may occasionally be required to look up your warranty status in case you need a hardware issue repaired. Provided your machine is online and we know your WVM tag, we can typically find it on our end, but if you are offsite or if your computer is not on our network (which is common with laptops) we may occasionally ask you to retrieve it. This document outlines where you can find it.
Note that serial numbers typically only have capital letters and numbers in them. On Windows computers they will be 7 characters long and might look something like "12ABC34". On Macs, they are about 10 characters long and might look like "X02YZ1ZYZX".
Locating Physically
Your serial number will typically be physically printed onto your computer. On desktops, this is usually found on a label attached to the side of the computer, labelled as "Service Tag." On laptops, this is usually found on the underside of the machine requiring you to flip the whole thing over. It is usually in small print and might be labelled as "ST:" followed by the service tag.
Locating Digitally (Windows)

- Hold the Windows key on your keyboard and press the R key to open a Run window.
- Type cmd into the Run window, then hit OK. A Command Prompt window will open.
- In the Command Prompt window, type or copy-paste in the following command and then hit the Enter key: wmic bios get serialnumber
- The Command Prompt window will then output text reading "SerialNumber" followed by your serial number on the next line.
